Not Everything We Pave Is a Driveway or a Parking Lot
Some of the most interesting projects we take on are the ones that don’t fit neatly into a category. A homeowner who wants a basketball court in the backyard. A family building an RV pad next to the garage. A rural property owner who needs a half-mile private lane paved so they can stop fighting mud and gravel every spring. These projects all require the same foundation work and asphalt quality as any driveway or lot, but the details are different every time.
Brooks Brothers Driveways handles specialty asphalt paving across Northern and Central Indiana. We build sport courts, RV and equipment pads, private roads and lanes, cul-de-sac turnarounds, walking paths, and other custom surfaces. Every project gets the same approach: proper grading, a compacted aggregate base, and hot-mix asphalt at the right thickness for the intended use. When your project doesn’t fit a standard mold, that’s where experience matters most.
Pickleball alone has grown to over 8.9 million participants in the U.S., and backyard courts are one of the fastest-growing residential paving requests we see. Whether you’re building a court, a pad, or a road, we handle the full project from site prep to finished surface.

Signs Your Need Specialty Paving Work
Ruts, washouts, mud in the spring, dust in the summer, and loose gravel kicked into the yard year-round. If you’re spending time and money regrading your gravel lane every season, paving it with asphalt ends that cycle for good.
You Want a Backyard Sport Court
Basketball, pickleball, tennis, or a multi-sport court. A proper asphalt base is the standard surface for outdoor sport courts. It needs to be flat, smooth, and built on a base that drains well. This is not the same as paving a driveway. Court surfaces require tighter tolerances and a finer mix design.
Your RV Has Nowhere
Level to Park
Parking a camper, motorhome, or travel trailer on grass or gravel leads to sinking, uneven surfaces, and mud. A paved RV pad gives you a stable, level surface that holds up under the weight of a fully loaded rig. Most pads need to be at least 12 feet wide and 40 to 50 feet long.
You Need a Turnaround at the End of a Long Driveway
Long residential driveways and rural lanes without a turnaround force you to back out every time. A paved turnaround or cul-de-sac at the end of the lane saves time, reduces wear on your vehicle, and makes the property easier for delivery trucks and emergency vehicles to access.
You're Building an Equipment Pad or Barn Pad
Heavy equipment, tractors, skid steers, and stored materials need a hard surface to sit on. A properly paved asphalt pad prevents equipment from sinking into soft ground and gives you a clean, usable work area year-round.
Your Community Wants a Walking Path or Trail
Parks, HOA communities, churches, and schools sometimes add paved walking paths or fitness trails. Asphalt paths are smooth, durable, and low-maintenance. They can be built in widths from 5 to 8 feet and follow the natural contour of the property.
Specialty Paving Services We Provide
Sport Court Paving
Basketball courts, pickleball courts, tennis courts, and multi-sport surfaces. We built the asphalt base to American Sports Builders Association guidelines, including a minimum 4-inch compacted aggregate base and fine-graded HMA surface. Court dimensions follow standard regulations: 20 x 44 feet for pickleball (30 x 60 recommended total area), 50 x 94 for full basketball. Court striping and acrylic surface coatings can be applied after the base cures.
RV Pads and Equipment Pads
Level, stable parking surfaces for RVs, campers, boats, trailers, and heavy equipment. We grade and compact the base, pave with asphalt at the thickness needed for the expected weight, and make sure water drains away from the pad. Most residential RV pads are 12 to 16 feet wide and 40 to 55 feet long depending on the rig.
Paving for private residential roads, rural lanes, farm access roads, cul-de-sac turnarounds, and shared driveways. We handle everything from short connector lanes to half-mile rural roads. The process is the same as any road project: grading, base preparation, drainage, and hot-mix asphalt paving.
Walking Paths, Trails, and Custom Surfaces
Paved asphalt paths for parks, HOA communities, churches, and schools. Paths are typically 5 to 8 feet wide with a slight cross-slope for drainage. We also handle custom projects like paved aprons, transition areas between surfaces, and any asphalt work that doesn’t fit a standard category.
Why Choose Asphalt for Specialty Projects
Works for Almost Any Shape or Layout
Unlike concrete, which needs rigid forms, asphalt can be laid in curves, irregular shapes, and tight spaces. That flexibility makes it the natural choice for winding paths, custom-shaped pads, and courts built into existing landscapes.
Smooth, Consistent Surface
Sport courts need a flat, even playing surface. RV pads need to be level. Walking paths need to be smooth enough for strollers and wheelchairs. Asphalt delivers a consistent, finished surface across all of these applications when installed with proper equipment and technique.
Handles Northern Indiana's Climate
Asphalt flexes with freeze-thaw cycles instead of cracking like rigid surfaces. For outdoor courts, pads, and paths that sit through Indiana winters, that flexibility means fewer repairs and a longer-lasting surface.
Faster Installation Than Concrete
Most specialty paving projects are completed in 1 to 3 days depending on the size. You can walk on a new asphalt surface within 72 hours and use it normally shortly after. Concrete courts and pads require significantly longer curing times before they’re ready.
More Affordable for Large Areas
Private roads, long lanes, and oversized pads cover a lot of square footage. Asphalt costs less per square foot than concrete, which makes a meaningful difference when you’re paving hundreds or thousands of square feet of surface.
How a Specialty Project Works
Every project starts with Levi visiting your property. He looks at the site, discusses what you’re building, and figures out the best approach for your specific layout and terrain. Sport courts need extremely flat surfaces with tight drainage tolerances. RV pads need enough structural depth to support heavy, stationary loads. Private roads need proper crown or cross-slope to shed water. Each project type has its own requirements, and we plan accordingly.
The crew handles the full scope: clearing the site, excavating and grading, compacting the subgrade, installing the aggregate base, and paving with hot-mix asphalt. For sport courts, we use a finer-graded mix with smaller aggregate for a smoother finished surface. For roads and pads, we use standard HMA at the thickness appropriate for the traffic and load.
After paving, we go over care instructions and any next steps. Sport courts typically need 30 to 60 days of curing before acrylic surface coatings and striping are applied. RV pads and roads are ready for use sooner. Every project is backed by our one-year warranty and 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Tips & Advice for Northern Indiana Property Owners
Specialty Paving Questions
Can you pave a basketball or pickleball court in my backyard?
Yes. We build the asphalt base for residential sport courts following ASBA guidelines. You’ll need enough flat space for the court dimensions plus a buffer zone around the edges. We evaluate your yard during the site visit and let you know what’s possible.
How thick does an RV pad need to be?
For a standard residential RV pad, we typically install 3 to 4 inches of compacted asphalt over 6 to 8 inches of aggregate base. The exact thickness depends on the weight of your rig and the soil conditions underneath. Heavier motorhomes may need a thicker base.
How much does it cost to pave a private road?
Cost depends on the length, width, how much grading and base work the terrain requires, and whether drainage improvements are needed. We provide a detailed written estimate after walking the route with you. Call (574) 377-1971 for a free estimate.
Do you handle the court striping and surface coating?
We build the asphalt base that the court surface goes on. Acrylic color coatings and sport-specific striping are typically applied by a specialty court surfacing contractor after the asphalt has cured for 30 to 60 days. We can coordinate timing with your surfacing provider.
Can you pave a walking path through my property?
Yes. We pave asphalt walking paths in widths from 5 to 8 feet. Paths can follow the natural contour of your property and include gentle curves and grade changes. We grade the path with a slight cross-slope so water drains off the surface.
